A day of cloth and conversation. Join Michele Elliot for a contemplative and practical workshop to explore the tradition of shroud-making. Shrouds have played an important role in caring for the deceased for a very long time. The washing and wrapping of the body is often the last act of care given to a person before they are farewelled.
The day will consist of supported discussion and reflection around end-of-life care, give attention to grief, to celebration and to ‘going-away’ outfits. Working with natural materials, Michele will guide you through the planning and design of a simple shroud and provide hands-on sewing instruction, embellishments, embroidery and practical tips. Whether you wish to make your own shroud or one for a particular person or pet, this workshop will support you to create a bespoke cloth with intention and care.
We will begin the day with a stop at Conjola Cemetery for some reflective exercises in observation. From here, we’ll proceed to the Wandandian Community Hall for morning tea and begin the workshop.
Basic sewing materials are provided, and participants are invited to bring their own fabric/cloth. More information will be sent upon registration.
Michele and Yila Healing Trail welcomes your Pay It Forward donations to support Community in attending this and other events. Thank you.
